My name is Oumou Sarr, proud founder of Kora Talent Group. I was born in Nigeria from Senegalese parents, grew up in Senegal, and started my career 25 years ago in the UK, with the last 9 years spent in the US.
I have been a hiring Manager for more than 20 years, overseeing multicultural teams. One of my greatest motivations as a manager was to coach my own team and help them reach their potential. I quickly understood that each team member was unique. It was my job as a leader to identify what was unique about each one of them, taking into account the culture differences and journeys in order to create and foster an environment they can identify with and thrive.
My passion is to help people from all backgrounds and genders reach their potential by matching them with the right organization. That is what led me to found Kora Talent Group. My inspiration is a woman who raised me and my 7 siblings by herself - my mother, Coura. Beginning as a high school teacher, she became an entrepreneur to give her children access to higher education. My siblings and I were taught that women and men are equal partners who together can achieve great things. We were constantly reminded to always fight for our dreams, to think and learn outside the box and to be a source of inspiration for our peers and the next generation.
The name Kora has a deep sentimental value. The kora is a traditional African music instrument, a symbol of harmony, peace and unity. Kora aims to create a social impact by being a holistic and aspirational resource for candidates from all walks of life. Our goal is to match candidates and companies with similar values so both can grow for the betterment of society.
